Solidarity Forever

There’s a lot about unions in Motor City at War (and in the rest of the Detroit series, which is underway). I’m writing a union chapter at the moment. I grew up with the Talking Union album—the cover brings back childhood memories—and this song, “Solidarity Forever,” is striking a chord, so to speak. This tune follows me around—it’s also the melody to “Battle Hymn of the Republic” and “John Brown’s Body,” both of which have crept into other books I’ve written.
