Detroit Bound Blues

I always listen to music when I write, but my newest books about Detroit have a different kind of playlist: they tell the story. The playlist is still evolving, but I’ll kick it off with a 1928 song by Blind Blake called Detroit Bound Blues. It’s a song that sent a lot of Black Southerners to Detroit to work for Henry Ford. Listen or read the lyrics.
